Hi!
I build a pc like 15 years ago where my gpu was NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT (time flies) and after a few years using OSX I'm finally building a desktop machine and I really need your help.

Use:
  • No gaming on this machine
  • Photo editing on CP1 / Photoshop
  • Video editing 1080p and some occasional 4k (would be nice to have specs to support 4k)
  • Running multiple apps at the same time (chrome with loads of tabs, virtual box, station, torrenting, etc
Already have:
  • Philips 27" 276E8VJSB 4K 5ms + Samsung 24” tft panel
  • Ducky One 2 TKL White cherry mx brown
  • Red Dragon M711 mouse
  • 4 TB Seagate Hard drive
NEW UPDATED BUILD

Type|Item|Price
CPU | AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor | €289.00 @ Alternate
Motherboard | MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard | €121.80 @ Alza
Memory | G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory | €190.29 @ Mindfactory
Storage | ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive | €161.80 @ Alza
Video Card | EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6 GB SC ULTRA GAMING Video Card | €275.99 @ Alternate
Case | Fractal Design Focus G ATX Mid Tower Case | €56.98 @ Alternate
Power Supply | SeaSonic FOCUS 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply | €89.98 @ ARLT

| Total | €1185.84

OLD BUILD

CPU:
1st option - AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 8x 3.70GHz So.AM4 BOX - 178,90€
2st option - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8x 3.60GHz So.AM4 BOX - 289€
I would save 110 € going with the first and older option. The second option gives about 15% more speed.
CPU Cooler:
The Ryzen 7 series already brings a decent cooler, not need to upgrade if I’m not overclocking right?

RAM:
32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX black DDR4-3200 DIMM CL16 Dual Kit - 161.85€
I could add another 32GB module later, if I have a board with 4 slots?

Storage:
1000GB Crucial MX500 M.2 2280 SATA 6Gb/s 3D-NAND TLC (CT1000MX500SSD4) - 126.38€

GPU:
1st option - 6GB ASRock Radeon RX 5600 XT Challenger D 6G OC Aktiv PCIe 4.0 x16 - 279.80€
chipset- AMD RX 5600-XT (AVG. Bench 84.9%)
2nd option - 8GB MSI RX 5700 EVOKE GP OC GDDR6, HDMI/ 3xDP - 308.90€
chipset- AMD RX 5700 (AVG. Bench 88.2%)
3rd option - Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB HBM2 - 309,90€
chipset – AMD RX Vega 56 (AVG. Bench 85.5%)
4th option - MSI Radeon RX Vega 64 Air Boost OC 8G - 329,90€
chipset – AMD RX Vega 64 (AVG. Bench 96.6%)
5th option - 8GB KFA2 GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER [1-Click OC] Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 (Bulk) - 419.00€
chiptset - RTX 2060S (Super) (AVG. Bench 98.8%)

Motherboard:
I have no idea what to get. Atx or Micro atx? I don’t think I need atx but If I want to upgrade another gpu in the future I need one right?
My thought process would be to get a good motherboard and then after some years I could replace the CPU / add RAM or a better GPU. Am I looking at this through the right angle?
I looked here but too much info
Case:
Anything budget sturdy and with good airflow. I don’t care about RGB or looks. Off course it will depended on the motherboard.
Power supply:
Anything reliable that will accommodate my needs.

Budget: my target is 1000€, but I can go a bit higher.
If I chose 1st option on all of them: 746,93€ missing motherboard, case and power supply

Could you make your suggestion between options or entirely new ones? I will make an excel sheet when I have more suggestions.

Thanks in advance

May I ask why did you pick that GPU? It costs 275.99, my 1st option - 6GB ASRock Radeon RX 5600 XT Challenger D 6G OC Aktiv PCIe 4.0 x16 costs 279.80€.

On the website https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/ the geforce scores AVG. Bench 69.3 while the Radeon AVG. Bench is 84.9%.

Is there anything that I'm not aware about the radeon?

NVidia cards are indeed more optimized for editing...

Would you change anything?
Should I upgrade the board to Asus Prime X470-Pro (40 euros more) to be able to SLI in the future?

The Focus G only has an acrylic side panel. They can build static charge and attract dust/ hair. They also scratch easily easily. That's why I chose the PS15

The problem is I will opt for ATX. Would this be better suited if that's the case?

I also have this options at about the same price:

I have built a few machines in that case but never found those issues, not that I was looking for them. This case is good on airflow and cable management its why it was suggested.

Silverstone is good in SFF cases. Not so sure about ATX though. Either of the Corsair should be fine according to me.

Withou getting too annoying I'm going to order this week so please if you find something incompatible or that I would be able to change to bring performance up let me know.

Q1: Will this Ripjaws RAM (F4-3600C16D-32GVKC) work witht this board? (could not find it on the supported list, maybe my mistake - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK#support-mem-19 )

Q2: Would you sacrifice "memory downgrade to 3200 + hard drive R/W speeds" to upgrade to a RTX 2060 GPU?

1: QVL list contains the kits tested with the board. If a kit is not tested with the board, doesnt mean it wont work. Most of the kits these days are perfectly compatible with any current build.

2: I would get this version, because the speed difference for the Memory and SSD here is not too significant.

The hard drive from the first build has +27% effective speed. I just hope that it doesn't make big real life difference.

Ram going from 3600 to 3200 I believe it will not have big impact on performance.
