I recently got my hands on a Toshiba NB305

It has 1GB of RAM that i could upgrade to 2GB.

Originally it came with Windows 7, but the OS eats up 70% of the memory even in idle. This makes the device run super sluggish.

I'm looking for lightweight distro recommendations that will make this small guy usable.
I suppose the most demanding thing I could expect out of this thing is web browsing.

Yup, and there is nothing that you can run on it to make it be able to handle modern webpages.

You can try slitaz and bookworm pup these are very light linux distros, but your problem is the CPU and GPU, I have a couple of these as well and the only thing they are good for is playing dos games.
