Hi all
Apologies for the extreme wall of text, but I would like to detail my issue as specific as possible.
So I had built my own PC 5 years ago. The key parts were:
CPU: i5 3470
GPU: Sapphire RX480 Nitro
PSU: Antec neo eco 520c (520w)
Mobo: I believe it is Asrock b75m-dgs (I dont have the exact details with me but I am 99% sure it is this)
HDD: WD500gb 7200rpm
CPU cooler: stock cooler
RAM: 2x 4gb Kingston DDR5 (I believe)
During the time when it was working, I had reapplied CPU thermal paste and it still works fine afterwards.
I used to use the computer daily, for long periods of time heavy gaming. Then in mid 2018 I only used it once weekly to game and the other times I did not turn it on. It still worked fine.
Then somewhere last October, I went on a 2 week vacation and came back and booted my computer into the desktop screen, and then the screen went black and the PC shuts down. It then attempts to boot automatically by itself, but it never got to the boot screen (i.e. the first image you see on your monitor when you boot) and nothing is registered onto the monitor. From then onwards, whenever i attempt to start the PC, i note that the fans (back case, CPU, front case) would start spinning and then 2-3 sec later it stopped, and then it tried to spin again but stopped. The GPU fans did not spin anymore.
So I thought the likely culprit may be the GPU and PSU, so I removed the GPU but still unable to boot (i.e. back case/cpu fans spin for 2-3 sec and then stop, and repeats). So I went to buy a new PSU (CORSAIR CX Series CX550 550W ATX12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply). All fans started spinning without stopping like before, but nothing is shown on the monitor. I then added back my GPU and my GPU fans start to spin but again nothing on the monitor. Then about 2min later, the fans would all stop and then automatically starts spinning again (similar to the previous issue). Instead of 2-3 sec, this would be around 2min before the fans stopped spinning and repeats. So I removed the GPU again, but same issue persists (which i believe rules out the GPU for being the culprit).
So my question is, which PC component(s) are likely to be at fault? I really hope it isnt the PSU since it is a brand new one, but apart from the PSU, I am not sure if it is the mobo or HDD that is the issue.
