Lil bit power connecting confusion....

Hi I recently bought ana asus z77m motherboard.But this motherboard contains 8 pin atx power connectors besides the 24 pin atx.But my smps got only 4pin .But this PSU contains 500 W capacity dc converter.This mobo ony needs a 350w minimum.I cant go for a new smps because iam already over me budget.And also,IT mens around me says that there is only need for connecting the4pin only on 8pin and the otherfour pin can be left empty....
But when i did that theres no display on the motherboard..........Is that the problem of the motherboard or the smps???
Have u guys connected the mmotherboard in 4 pins???Need urgent help..

read your manual, it will say if you can only hook up a 4 pin and it will tell you what 4 pins to use, or if you have to use a 8 pin. If you have to use all 8 pins you can buy and adapter that will make the 4 pin into an 8 pin.

The 8 pin power connector is for the 12V rail, which powers pretty much everything in the PC. I believe the number of pins refer to the power phase of the motherboard. Being a Z77 chipset motherboard which is designed for overclocking, it will obviously require more power than another motherboard which isn't designed for overclocking.

Most PSUs have an 8 pin 12V connector with 2 pins that can be separated if they're not needed. As your PSU only has a 4 pin connector, you have to buy a new PSU. There's no alternative.

Using an adaptor runs the risk of PSU failure or performance issues, as your components will be asking for power that can't be delivered.

no the 8 pin with the 2 pins that can be separated is know as a 6+2 pin for you video card and will not work for the motherboard. Some PSU's even come with a full 8 pin for the pci-e for the video card. those can not be used on the motherboard. a lot of them have little plastic connectors between the pins so they cant be plugged in to the motherboard.

ESP cables are ether a 4 pin or a 4 + 4 pin for the motherboard.

My mistake, I meant an "8 pin 12V connector with 4 pins that can be separated". I wasn't referring to the PCIe power connectors.
