Limitation of Frames Per Second in LCDs

Keeping in mind that I understand the difference between Hz and pixel latency in LCD monitors, is it possible to achieve higher than 60 FPS for hard core fist person shooter gamers. I realize that this is probably the only need for more than 60hz in an LCD. I long believed the reason that only lower resolution LCDS supported 75hz operation was a bandwidth limitation of the DVI standard. However, after reading Lars Weinand's article on TFT connections, it is obvious to me that this is not the limitation. Why can't we find monitors at 1600x1200 resolutions and higher at over 60hz? (I realize that there is no such thing as Hz for an LCD, but rather I'm just referring to the support of displaying over 60 frames per second from the gfx card). I have disabled v-sync with my video drivers, and although this allows the card to produce high fps, the LCDs will still not show more than 60.

This has been aggravating me for years.
I appreciate your help.
