Limited connectivity issue is driving me crazy

I have a TP-LINK router that my laptop is not getting along with. Very rarely, it will connect to wifi and work just fine. Most of the time though, it gives me a limited connectivity error. Restarting the router will sometimes fix it, but not always. When it's not working, it looks like a dhcp problem since it's a 169 IP address. I've tried setting a static one and that didn't do anything. There are several laptops, tablets and phones in the house that all work just fine. I'm running windows 7.

I've tried that and see no differences that I can recognize. What should I be looking for?

check your router settings dhcp range/leasing. i have ran across a few with low numbers like
192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.6 which would mean only 5 things at a time can connect. you can just change the higher one higher unless it is already like 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.255 then 254 can connect theoretically.

also, when it doesn't connect see if you can see the strength? is anything electrical in the way? I have even seen some lightbulbs mess the signal up if signal is weak already.
