Hi,

Have been working on a customers pc which was infected with various trojans
and spyware - the system was also having problems accessing the internet.
After removal and cleanup in safe mode I am unable to connect to any network
or the internet via network card or dial up modem. I have the "Limited or no
connectivity" icon in the task bar and the pc is set with a private ip
address.

I know this has been a common issue with sp2 for some time but have not come
across the problem untill today. Below is a list of actions already carried
out.

Installed ms hotfix for this problem.
Installed reg fix.
Reinstalled sp2 (unable to remove as the system was installed using an OS
disk with sp2 built in.
System file checker run.
Looked to remove q815485 and/or 826942 updates - neither were installed.
Reset tcp/ip with repair tool and with netsh command line.
Stopped and restarted dhcp service.
Set Network card to 10base/Full duplex.
Removed mcafee firewall inc misc files and registry entries.
Turned off xp built in firewall.
Uninstalled/reinstalled network card.
Tried 3 different network cards (that are known to work.)
Repair install of windows xp home.

Network gear Im trying to connect to is all functioning normally as other
machines here are connected and working fine. ADSL router running DHCP to
issue IP addresses.

Any suggestions?

Is this the right group or should I post elsewhere?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like this is getting to be a full-time job. I'd suggest using the
Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to save the files and settings on the
system (beware of saving any internet or network program settings) and then
doing a low-level format and clean install of XP.

It'll probably take less time than troubleshooting the issue.
