Line in audio creating echo effect

Hi all. I'm having this strange issue with using the line in audio. I'm trying to use the light blue jack on my Gigabyte z79x Gaming 3 motherboard to pass audio from my phone through to my speakers. I have checked everywhere (that I know of) looking for effects to be enabled and my Realtek audio software just says <None>. I don't get this effect when using audio straight from the pc. I have also tried going through the mic jack at the front and turning on "listen to this device" while using a different cable and I get the same result. I have also tried using other audio sources and still get the same problem. I'm sure it's just a setting I don't know of or something. Thanks in advance!
