I recently built a new computer and installed Windows 8.1. I have the Logitech G430 and whenever I plug in the mic from it, in to the front panel microphone jack, Realtek HD Audio Manager detects it and asks what it is, but when I choose it as a mic, it still fails to work. Just recently I was using the microphone perfectly fine with Windows 7 Ultimate. Any solutions? Would buying an external sound card such as a Creative Sound Blaster Omni Surround with a line in mic jack, do the trick?

My build:
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Motherboard
Intel Core i5-4690k Processor
Corsair H55 Liquid CPU Cooler Quiet Edition
2 x 4 GB HyperX Fury Cl10 1866mHz RAM
2x EVGA GTX 260 Graphics Cards
Corsair RM850 PSU
Corsair Carbide Series 330R Silent Computer Case
Samsung 840 Evo 256 GB SSD
WesternDigital 4 TB 5200 RPM HD

If you are in no need of a sound card i wouldnt recommend buying one just for the mic.
I had the same problem with my h87
Check if the mic works when in the back panel (pink or red plug) if it works the connection to the front mic might not be properly connected.

If it doesnt, update audio drivers of the motherboard or check for usb microphones.
But i really doubt the back panel wont work, just make sure you plug it in the correct one cause otherwise it wont know it is a mic.

the next thing that comes in mind is if the mic is working (but im sure u checked it with an different pc) and that the mic might be disabled in "recording devices" in the sound section but i have no knowledge of windows 8 to help more than google could.
in other words i doubt i was of any help
