Lines of lighter color in games. New GPU

Hi, I upgraded yesterday from an HD 4850 to R9 270 and after wiping old drivers from my system and installing the Catalyst Control Center, whenever I run full screen games horizontal lines of a colour lighter than the ones that should be there dance up and down the screen. I have tried with Wildstar and Dota 2. Are there any troubleshooting steps I should try before bringing the card back and trying to get it replaced?

Windows 7 64-bit.

Try using a different cord? DVI-D or HDMI....some specs may have changed since the time of the older card was made.

It's a dual dvi port that goes to VGA in the monitor, but the monitor and cord that came with it were purchased within the last year.

Edit: and also would that not have an effect on the display all the time, rather than just while running games?
