How can you get around this issue when you have no back up cd as pc was sold with all the Microsoft already I stalled with no option of a back up cd available at time of purchase as microsoft stopped providing them.
I have a blue screen with options to trouble shoot and turn off.
On entering troubleshoot option there are a further 5 options ... none of which appear to work. In this instance as I have entered them all and followed said instructions. Nothing workable is available. And no option to click a link to hel
So only option available is to turn of pc on original specifications screen
Which does not solve any of the problem.
I've tried F2 and 4.

Backup CD? Do you mean an installer? You can download those from Microsoft - On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB or DVD

What is the problem you are trying to solve? Doesn't PC boot?

Do you need to save any info off PC? Go to troubleshoot/advanced/command prompt
type notepad and press enter - this opens notepad
in notepad, choose File > Open - this will open file explorer, use it to copy any files you don't want to lose.

Thanks Colif. I'll answer paragraph by paragraph.
I have no access to another pc so that option is out as I'd have to buy a new one to complete your answer. "May have to do that yet?"

On opening pc I got a blue screen with 2 option boxes
1 troubleshooting
2 close down pc.

I opened trouble shoot .. this has 5 further option boxes. I systematically went thro all those and followed said instructions ... still can't get windows to open.
Tried pressing F2 and F4 options... no joy.
Tried Ctl, Alt , Del .... hoping to open up in safe mode ... no joy.
Phoned Microsoft...got case no .. they said I need access to another pc to do it wirelessly now. No joy.

I will need to do this sooner or later.. to get my data etc off but not applicable at this point

The problem seems to be a ... device attached to system not functioning ... issue.
Also LinkId=225039 ... comes up as an issue.

Don't you have any friends who can help make the installer? the USB can be used multiple times so it could help them out in future too. The installer can be used to try to figure out the error. If nothing else its a boot drive

Do you have any extra USB devices (like external hard drives or a printer) attached to PC? they might be the device that isn't functioning. Unplug any USB devices except mouse/keyboard. Try starting with no USB at all attached and see if you can get past that error.

That link ID is just a page that shows how to use the Start up repair menu - the place where those 5 options are.

What are the menu choices you have? Is reset this PC one of them?

Or are they these:
System restore
System image recovery
Startup repair
Command Prompt
UEFI Firmware Settings

None of these choices is overly useful. Its a shame if it doesn't include reset this PC. The 5 above are part of the advanced options menu, Reset this PC should be only one under troubleshoot.

Otherwise, I would suggest taking PC into a shop and ask them to fix it, I wouldn't buy a new PC to make a USB either but this might be the only answer if you can't get a USB of your own.

I would copy everything off PC before getting it fixed as likely they would reinstall win 10.

I can't really suggest anything else. I would help you if I could. 🙁

Pc reset option not available on screen.
The series of 5 options listed are ... but the last one did not say 'firmware' but something else.
I can't get USB of my own in this sense as am pensioner with no kids etc. So that option is dead.
Can't open up into anything or get past that page as I've said I've tried f2, f4 and Ctl, Alt and Del to try to get old fashioned bios screen up to do a safe restart. No go with all these options.
Can not get into any other screen to copy anything off.
Those 5 options under repair are all that is visible other than one further option to close down pc.
Stymied.

The USB is of no use if you haven't got anyway to make an installer (no other PC). Where do you live?

Taking PC in for a repair is far cheaper than buying a new PC. I would go that route, and ask them to make a USB installer so you don't get caught out again. USB aren't that expansive anymore, I can get a 16gb USB for $4.00 online. Depending on what country you in, they may be cheaper.

Thanks but you are not going to be able to solve this. I've just been onto Microsoft and their latest win10 update of May 18 ... has made my pc 'incompatible' over nite ... not their fault of course ... it was compatible the day before running and working happily with win 10 and then came the automatic update!
Now I need to find someone locally to me here in the UK who might be able to take my files off if it.
Thanks anyway. "Sodding Windows ... making people's machines obsolete without even warning them!"
