Is there a way to have the folder icons on the start menu (documents, music, etc) link directly to folders on the secondary hard drive - the data drive, and not to the SSD? I have Win 10 Pro, v 1903.

Thanks!

Many moons ago, this was written just for you to come along:

Win 7 & 8: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/new-ssd-now-what-redirecting-static-files-elsewhere.1518605/

Win 8.1 & 10: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-redirect-folders-to-other-drives-in-windows.1701731/

Thanks to you both! Yes, I know they can be moved - but will the start menu icons for each folder link to the new location or the old one? I did try a test with just one, and it "moved" to the hard drive, but there was also the same folder still on the SSD drive and that is the one that the start menu icon led to.

I guess I am trying to make custom start menu icons that lead right to those folders on the hard drive, not the SSD.

Thanks for the replies and links!

Thanks! I'll have to try it again, since I am pretty sure that when I moved one of the folders - it was the Video folder - when I clicked on the start menu Video icon, it led to the C (SSD) drive - not the D hard drive. Maybe I didn't do the move right to begin with.

Thanks! I'll try it again and see!

Quick update on this question if anyone is still following. I followed this procedure again and it worked fine - the new folder was created on my D drive and it did link from the start menu.

However - that same folder was still visible on the C drive and when I added something to it on the D drive- it was also visible on the C drive as well.

Does this mean it is saving in two places? Or is a restart needed and that will remove it from the C drive. I don't want things being saved in two places, but that seems to be what is happening.

Thanks for any ideas on this and if a restart will "fix" things.
