A family member wants to put Linux on his HP 6640E (now running Win95),
but I don't know if there's a distro that will work properly on it due
to its age. It's mostly stock, just a cheapy video card he put in
recently.

I'd appreciate a recommendation or pointer.

Thanks!

The more advanced age of a computer generally argues in favor of a successful
installation of Linux. Unlike Micro$oft, the developers of Linux are clever
enough to carry forward support for older chipsets, whether graphics, or audio,
or network, or I/O. Go for it.

On the other hand, I have encountered small problems with Linux installs on
hardware that is too new (e.g. Intel Pro 1000 Ethernet when it first came
available) to have Linux support built into whatever distro.
