Linux Mint 17.1, Password Protected USBs and Running Windows Skype

I installed wine and winetricks on my latest updated Linux Mint and i cant run skype's latest version. Skype i giving me some dll missing.

Another problem is that i use password protected USBs for my job proyects and i cant open them. Help!

Why are you running Skype in WINE. WINE is a security risk. There is a native Skype client for Linux, you can download it from Skype's website. You can also add Skype in the to the repos, so Synaptic and update manager will update it for you.

As for the USB, I don't know what you are using for that, so I can't help there.

Go to skype and download the linux version rather than mess with wine. As a rule of thumb it's better to use a native linux version and there is one in the case of skype.You can also use skype via pidgin if you prefer with an add-on but it needs skype to work.

Password protected how?

The latest version of Skype wont let me log in with microsoft accounts my main account is a hotmail acc also when using a new image the quality is not the same as the new skype on windows display.

by password protected i am refering tousb drives like usblock or kingston dtlocker

I am using Skype v4.3.0.37 without problems under Ubuntu 14.04.

Most probably your password-protected USB stick comes with some Windows-only "unlocker" or driver. You can check with Kingston for Linux version, but I suppose you will be out of luck. And since it's most probably a device driver, Wine won't help either.

Have you tested adding profile images and see how windows user see them? also skype in linux works fine with me with skype account but with microsoft accounts it wont just log in.

Go to skype.com on your Mint pc and it should automatically provide you with a download link for Linux-based OS; a .deb file most likely. Or, open your Synaptic package manager in Mint menu, search for Skype there, check the box to left of its entry, and click Apply button.
