Greetings everyone! Found this website awhile back while looking for troubleshooting help and love it, but its my first time posting here. So hi everyone and ty for all the help you people provide :)

Anyways, so my issue... I have a around 5 year old Origin PC system with the following specs :
MB : Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z
CPU : Intel Core i7 2600
Graphics : Nvidia GTX 580 3gb
RAM : 16Gb Corsair Vengenace DDR 1600
Cooling System : Origin Frostbyte 120
Case : Corsair Obsidian 800D
Power Supply : Antec 1200

Alright, so this computer worked perfectly until a couple of days ago when it randomly shut down with overheating issues (ive always been checking temperatures using RealTemp & later with HWMonitor and temps were fine, no signs of getting degraded because of time).

I called Origin TechSupport and we ran some tests, the computer would start and we would be able to get into the BIOS but the temperature would always reach the auto shut down line and shut itself of. Leaving the PC off for an hour resulted in the PC booting with a temp of 45C, and increasing 1C per every 10 seconds which gave me around 3-5 minutes in WIndows before shutdown. Since its a 5 year old system, Origin sent me a replacement Water Cooling part, this time it was a Asetek 500LC which was installed yesterday.

After installation and power up, I could hear water flowing through the pipes and into the pump. System booted up and temperatures were around 15-20C idle. Everything was perfect, ran a game and it topped at 60C. Decided to restart the computer via shutdown and powering it up again, shutdown occurred at a temp of 36C, powerup immediately gave me a temperature error and the bios showed a 88C temp and an immediate shut down. I hear no water flowing anymore. We tried moving the connecting cable from 'CPU Fan' slot to a 'Chassis 1 Fan' Slot. The Water Cooling worked again until another restart.

I wonder,
Would the BIOS maybe need to be flashed? ive never done it before and idk if that would cause a newer component (assuming this Asetek 500LC is considered a newer component) to not work correctly.

Maybe I need to reapply thermal paste, before the Asetek was installed, it was checked and there was still thermal paste on the processor and it wasn't dried, the Asetek came with preapplied thermal paste too. But then again, if this was the case, why work again after switching ports.

Im completely clueless on this! Origin said they would send me an adapter to directly connect the Asetek to the PSU on Monday.

Any ideas anyone? ty in advance for any responses!!

PS - Maybe the motherboard is dying, in the last month ive lost 2 USB ports and 2 of the memory slots no longer work bringing my Mem down from 16 to 8 GB. When overheated, every part of the Asetek feels cold, even touching the enclosed part on top of the processor is cold... could the MB temperature sensors be damaged and therefore read a false temp?

it sounds like the motherboard is dying sadly but it could be shorting out depending on how clean you keep the inside of your case and your components. for example if the chassis fan slot had hair or dust on it when you installed the plug on to it it is possible for it to case an electrical short and render that plug useless.
as much as i would like to say origin will fix or replace the system for you i highly doubt it due to its age. Your best bet will be to find a test board and see if everything works with your setup and go from there.
hope it all works out for you. :)

Ty for the reply. I ended up taking the pump off and noticed the pump's preapplied paste was almost completely gone and the leftover on the processor was now dry. I cleaned off the paste and applied new Artic Silver 5 Thermal Compound and tighten the screws as much as I could without forcing the MB. And now the system is running perfectly. Idle temps between 18-24C. Tried running 3 games at the same time, and it didn't even reach 50C. Ty again :)
