The cd drive just quit reading. Device manager says the device is working properly. Tried all I know - uninstal, reinstal driver update nothing worked. Any ideas or do I just need to get a new drive??

You can clean the laser lens on these things -- about the only sensible maintenance. They're cheap and they don't last forever.

As I'm an incurable tinkerer if this happens to me I open the drive case, plug the thing into a power supply and put in a disk and see what happened. Sometimes it can be a drawer or disc clamp malfunction. Or disc motor. But usually the laser is on the way out.
