the lite-On Combo model SOHC-4832K drive was purchased used but 'fully functional". The problem is, it will only read and play CD's, but not DVD's.
I went through the troubleshooter in Windows and got nowhere.
I went to Hp's website to download updated drivers, but that was a wasted effort.I followed the steps to download it and to finish installation by inserting a blank 1.44MB diskette into the floppy drive, so the downloaded files could saved to it. i was to leave the disk in the drive and follow instructions. Nothing further happened-no further instructions were shown on the desktop, and I waited about a half hour. when I removed the disk, I found some files, but none like Setup.exe.
I am thinking I have a problem with the motherboard and posibly is due to lack of the needed software, as I was only able to download and install two of the drivers needed for it(GA-8S648FX)the Sis AGP, and the Mini Sis IDE drivers from Gigabyte's download center. I had to go to Realtek's website to download the AC97Codecs and the HD audio Codecs. Windows XP provided the LAN drivers, and I installed the video card with its install disc.
I am thinking that the motherboard may be the main culprit for this problem, and at least a bad sound chipset?
should I go back to Gigabyte's site and go to one of the other sites(ie China or England) to download the drivers I need? I am afraid to see about downloading a new BIOS, and there are several available.
I appreciate any advice offered to help me .

wolf sends: thank you for your reply. I ran across another website that recommended this player. I also was advised to install either Power DVD from Cyberlink or WIn DVD.
I have nero7.0 and wonder if this will work,.
