There is no ingame feature that allows you to listen to your own music
AFAIK. I usually load up a playlist in Winamp and leave it running in the
background.

Turn the in-game music off, and run winamp in the backround. It works a
treat!

What is a real shame is English people like me can't speak English as well
as you, never mind a second language 🙂

It works pretty well and runs basically like WinAmp, except for a few
things:

1) Even when minimized, there is a little purple box with an "x" in it
that will not go away with the rest of the UI when you hit alt-z. I'm a
big fan of scenic screenshots, so that's really frustrating to have to
have a perfect shot except for a small box off to the side.

2) It doesn't override new music, such as when you go into a new area.
Say, flying to wetlands, it'll start playing the wetlands theme with
your current music. If you go back and start up another mp3, it'll turn
off the in-game music, but the same thing will happen next time you hit
a new zone.

3) The playlist is wonky. You have to put all mp3s you want to play in
a folder in WoW's data directory, then run a small dos executable to
generate the playlist. When you add new mp3s, you have to run it again,
and then choose "import" for the new playlist... and it adds the entire
list on top of the old, so you have to manually delete the duplicates.

Once you're used to these quirks, it's nice, though. I just wish it
would override in-game music completely and let you play mp3s from
elsewhere on your system so you don't have to duplicate files.

As others have suggested, simply turn off the music in game and run another
program in windows. Only way old soundcards with even older drivers cannot
mix the sound of the game and from the other source. There's even an addon
you can use http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=69
though I haven't tested that.

Sounds like turning off the ingame music and running winamp in the background is
a better solution, especially for those of us who have keyboards with multimedia
keys (which winamp can still grab while playing wow, so you can change tracks).
