I just got a Seasonic M12 Bronze 620W unit. My parents were telling me, "Use that 970 with your 500W unit!"
Outervision PSU calculator says 508W @ 90%.
AMD FX-8000 series CPU gets minimum 70% on Dying Light, at least 3x more powerful than the i5-760.
i5-760 will CLEARLY be above 90%.
Do the math.
Now that that's out of the way, now you know why I got this new PSU.
Anyways, I set it up, excited to turn it on, uninstall drivers, put new GPU in, play some games,
Gets past mobo boot screen -> loading windows. Then it turns off by itself.
I've heard stories of Seasonic units dying not-so-quiet deaths, and I'm afraid that trying to turn it on will result in the same thing. But I live in the US, and supposedly the quality rules say "PSUs can't explode," seen low-cost ATX supplies here that do not obey that rule, but are still out there anyways.
$60 PSU. Should I be worried? This PC means a lot to me.
Meanwhile, I'll just put together new systems on PCPartPicker. Might help me get some new lineups together.
