Here's what I did with my Win 7 computer. I changed the adapter control back to automatic detection and then shut down the computer. Unplugged it from the wall. Unplugged the router/modem. Unplugged the "wire" from the modem to the computer. Waited 5 minutes. Plugged in the Router. Waited 10 minutes. Plugged in the "wire" from the computer to the Router. Plugged in the computer to the "wall". Turned on the computer and had internet connection.
