So my computer used to have an Ethernet connection. It now says it has a local area connection and will only let me view yahoo, Google, and basic search engines but not actually view websites. Is there a way to fix this or to change it. Back to a true Ethernet connection?

Solution

When you changd the router, you need to connect the computer to it, is it connected? There should be a network cable form the computer going to one of the LAN ports in the router. Make sure that is all connected, you have link lights on the network card, and reboot, check it again.
Yeah sorry. So under the networking center on Windows 7 it used to say I was directly connected via Ethernet and had internet access. After we installed a New modem/router it changed from Ethernet to local area connection and I cannot browse further than a generic search engine. I've looked some things up and it might be possible that my of cannot obtain an ip address. But I'm not entirely sure
