All of a sudden I have a Local Disk Z:

I can not delete it or remove it.

Why did it show up?

At the same time it showed up I no longer can map network drives.

Help Please

Solution
That should not have just happened on it's own, did you install something right before this? You should do a virus scan on the system with Malwarebytes and I like to use an off-line boot CD also to scan with, Avira and AVG both have a free one you can make.

Open a command-prompt (cmd.exe) and run subst; you should see something like the following:

C:\>subst
Z:\: => C:\Users\JOSHUAK\AppData\Local\Temp

C:\>

It means that the drive letter ‘Z’ is mapped to your temp directory (it might be the system temp directory C:\Windows\Temp instead of your user temp directory C:\Users\JOSHUAK\AppData\Local\Temp).

You can delete the mapping as follows.

CMD Prompt:

C:\subst z: /d
