-What are my options fix the drives or to recover my data?
My computer system has started locking up when attempting to open files on my 2x WD 1TB striped drives. The file tables are visible, but when I attempt to open any files or sub-folders my system locks up. I suspect I have a failing or failed hard drive. The drives are 4 years old with a lot of hours of usage on them. What are my options fix the drives or to recover my data?

System:
Gigabyte GA-880MA-UD2H mobo
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2G CPU
16G 4x4G Corsair RAM
ATI 6800HD Saphire 1G Graphics Card
1x 120 Samsung SSD
2x 1TB WD HHD
Win7 Ulimate

Solution
If they are "stripped" as in RAID 0, you are in trouble, there is no protection for data built into that. In fact it pretty much doubles your chance of data loss because a failure in either drive means loss of data.

You can try different SATA cables. Other than that, if it's a drive failure on either drive, your data is gone unless you want to send out the disks to a data recovery shop. Last time I did that it was at work and cost up $600 to recover data off a failed RAID setup.

Read this, it may help and explain things a bit http://www.freeraidrecovery.com/library/raid0-recovery.aspx

Check the SMART health status of the drives with a tool like CrystalDiskInfo. It's likely one is failing. If so attempt to make a drive image. Then you can try RAID recovery software like R-Studio / UFSexplorer / GetDataBack

If this is high value data seek the help of a pro.
