Lock up followed by up visuals...

Computer locked up while playing LA Noire today and coming back up from lock up, the graphics are all up. Wallpaper is even all jumpy and off. What can I check out to diagnose he problem?

Any help here. I seem to be overheating and I'm not seeing any easy problems like a fan not spinning etc. Plus I'm running in sli and only the top card is overheating.
