I have been having problems with my OS lately. It tends to lock up only when I am at my GUI (Desktop). I really dont know what it could be I think its something thats running in the back around, but I have tryed to trun off the ones that are not critical and it still happens. The GUI locks up, but I can use my keyboard to start programs I only cant you my mouse when the Interface locks up. I only get this when I am on my desktop surfing the web and such. It never happens when I am playing a game.

Thx everyone

Are you using a PS2 mouse and a dial-up modem? It sounds like you have a device conflict with your mouse. Try opening the Device Manager (Control Panel->System->Click the Hardware tab->Device Manager) and see if there is any yellow circles with question or exclamation marks or any red X's.

Also, have you updated any drivers recently (Graphic card, etc.)? If so, try reverting back to the previous version.

Finally, if you're using a USB mouse - check the manufacturer's website to see if there is an updated driver.

I used to use a ball mouse and changed so
What brand mouse was it?
Were there any drivers loaded for it?
If so you could be having a driver conflict.
Make sure any old drivers are uninstalled. Might also uninstall the drivers for your current mouse and reinstall.
