Hello,

I am considering a Z170 mobo for my new build. Either GB Z170-D3H or ASUS Z170-A.
But i am not planning on OC. I will be buying i5 6500. I pick the Z line because H is almost the same price and missing some features, that might come in handy in future.

So if i buy a higher clocked ram, like Corsair 2400 or 2666Mhz., will there be a problem with the locked CPU? Because i see in i5-6500 specs that it supports 2133 only?

Thank you for the answer. I was affraid that 2666 ram won't come in terms with the locked CPU.
Well, in my country we don't have a large choice in G.Skill ram, so i will be buying either Kingston HyperX or Corsair LPX. Whichever is cheaper, because i don't think i will see any difference between CL16 and CL17 ...

I am planning on using the integrated video for a few months, because i have to study hard and knowing i can play the games i want won't help at all ... So i guess the extra Mhz can come in handy in this scenario.
I was not thinking of a Z motherboard but ... 20$ difference is not that much so whatever. Better safe than sorry ...

although it is true that a vast majority pc usage wont see a performance difference between 2133 2400 2666 etc... if you can get 2400/2666 or even 2800mhz at a cost that is only a few bucks more than standard then there isn't much reason not to. with a total system cost of $700-900, paying $20 extra for a z board and $15 extra for faster ram only accounts for an extra 3-5% of the total budget. though if you have a strict budget you cannot go over and that extra $35 dollars towards faster ram and a z board means you have to go with an r9-380 instead of an r9-390 then that wouldn't be ideal.
