Hi all,

This happened on my dad's Acer 5 A515 laptop. as far as I can tell - he just opened the laptop one day and was locked out of his PC with the Bitlocker screen on. He never enabled it or set up a recovery key, let alone saved the key somewhere. perhaps some rogue update behavior or smthng.

Is there anyway around that? what's important is to save some files that are on the PC - other than I can format and reinstall.

The Botlocker prompt happens sometimes with BIOS updates. But if you say it was never enabled then that's weird...
Unfortunately, there's no way around it without the key. If you want to continue to use the computer you'll need to boot from a Windows installation media (USB) and reinstall Windows from scratch - erasing everything that was on the drive.

You have an option maybe. If you were logged into your Microsoft account the key would have been backed up there. Go to microsoft.com Sign in. Click your name and open "My Microsoft Account" Under devices fingers crossed yours is listed it will provide the key.
