locked out of used computer HELP PLEASE

a friend traded my roommate a computer its a windows xp professional dell. I was attempting to connect us to the wifi and it asked me all these questions with the final page saying computer name "ian-ross" and i thought i would change the name, i did not know that would lock us out of the computer completely. now when i turn it on i get the screen saver and no box to click on cant even get to start window. I am obviously not very computer literate and have no idea how to get it available again. i wanted to be able to use microsoft for writing and power point for some projects if i couldnt use the internet. i dont understand what is happening and could really use some help. is there anyway to wipe it from the system start up off of F2 or F12 because these are the only buttons currently working to pull up anything but a blank screen.

Sorry, but we can't help you. We have no means to verify you are the legal owner of the system in question or authorized to make changes to the system. In all likelihood you will have to reload the OS to use this system. You could also ask the original owner for the Administrator password and simply make the need changes to the locked accounts.
