locks when playing games

why does my pc lock up when playing certain games and why does it have a white screen on it happened a few times but doesn't happen when playing other games

oh ok the GPU is a GeForce gtx 660 cpu intel(r) core i5-4670k cpu @ 3.40ghz 8.00gb ram 1920x1080 resolution 60hz, driver version is 340.52 its a windows 7 system I play mainly strategy games turn based ones like shogun 2 rome 2 and empire total war.

Empire total war is the one that crashed with a white screen although I use mods one called imperial splendour which is for empire other games medieval 2 and age of empires 2 hd edition and they are ok.

If the other games crash they are possibly just game bugs but I don't have white screen lock ups with them just seems to be empire that does it.

Although all the 3 games you describe are not demanding, and your system should run it w/o issues, but I know the Empire total war demands more performance than the other 2. What PSU do you have?

think its 500w I got the pc from chillblast my pc is the haswell tiger shark good system for gaming

Change the PSU, it isn't branded and 500W is not the go-to PSU for your kind of system. Also, uninstall and reinstall all GPU drivers.

i will turn the pc off one day and quickly look what psu i have how do i reinstall gpu drivers im worried it will mess my system up unless i speak to chillblast and say that its been doing this?

Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers won't mess up the system. It'll make sure drivers aren't the reason for faulty performance.

I reinstalled the graphics driver is that what I was supposed to do and I found out my psu is fsp premium grade 500w

It'd uncheck one possibility, that of faulty drivers. Also, 500W FSP isn't the best, a very poor one actually. Get a 550W Antec or XFX, and it may just solve your problem if FSP isn't able to provide stable current under high loads.

hmm thanks for helping this is the system I got its overclocked to quite a good system worth the money

sadly reinstalling graphics driver didn't solve the problem it locked up again bloody thing

If it locks up on intensive parts of the game, then I'd say get a better PSU, it may just be passing off. Or if that's not the case, then the problem is not about PSU.

If it's only locking up with certain games then it's most likely a software issue.

^Yeah it seemed like that at first, and with little driver refreshing/ cleaning he was able to get Titanfall to work properly Now, an even more demanding game, BF4, seems to freeze. I'm not aware if it freezes on intensive parts which give more load or at the start itself. If he's able to get this one to work with Game reinstall/ OS reinstall, then nothing like it. But he may eventually find out PSU is not able to take load, that's a possibility too.

A 140w card and an 84w CPU? It's more likely a software issue.

Whoopsy that's the wrong post for this thread. Apologies! I am handling quite a bit of similar posts lately so jumbled up this one. Again, you're right Monkey, its most likely a software issue. I was actually answering to this thread:

so is this the psu or software problem chillblast told me to to do and I get power surge detection and it just closed down and restarted



Thanks for the log file. Please could you try resetting your BIOS settings? To do this, when starting the PC up please keep tapping the delete key to enter the UEFI BIOS Setup utility. Once you’re in this, hit F5 on the keyboard which will bring up a question asking you if you want to load optimized defaults. Confirm this, and then press F10 which will bring up a question asking if you want to save changes and restart the computer, to which you should answer yes. The PC will restart as normal.



Please let me know if this has any effect on Empire Total War.
