I'm just setting up my new lenovo laptop and the lenovo app recommended a bios update thingy ( cant remember the description ) upon reboot I cant enter my pin so it asks to setup new pin , it then tells me its sending a code to my very old Hotmail account . The problem is I haven't used hotmail properly for years , but I've looked around it is now outlook and when I send a email from my gmail account it goes through no problem BUT I'm not getting the code needed to log into the laptop.

What can I do next. Lenovo are useless no help until Monday.

thanks for any help

I've tried repairs and a reset and it all comes back to problem the only thing I can think of is a complete reinstall. I've not done that for years and I have to admit I'm not sure how to do this and what affect it will have on the laptop ie, will it loose all the installed proprietary stuff etc which I think over the top for a new laptop.

Also it says it will send a code to the hotmail account but I'm not getting it . Any idea why

I got a lenovo laptop during covid lockdown so i am not sure if the method of logging in has changed.
You should be able to choose between logging in with a pin or password and the password it requires is the one you use on the email address when you set use a microsoft account , it should not make any difference if the email address is no longer in use because all it wants is the correct password. Once you are at the desktop go to login options and you should eventually find an option box to tick so that you dont have to log in again.

In the start up menu look for your lenovo folder and you should find a program called vantage and it works like windows update does , it will scan your laptop and look for anything that is out of date on your machine , it is specifically for lenovo products only.

I've had it running at the start with a few reboots all ok. I then went to the lenovo app and updated as recommended then no way to log in . It mentions the pin problem as above but no code is sent to hotmail (outlook) . I tried all sorts of repair things and still always goes back to the same issue.
