Logging off slowly!

When shutting down the computer-it takes too many minutes to exit windows.
The machine is very slow.I have seen som solutions earlier but forgotten it.
Could someone please inform we where to?I have done all prosedures as to
viruses an so forth.Otherwise my computer runs very nicwe

Slow is a relative term. How long in seconds/minutes/hours is it taking?

Logging off takes up to 7 min and very often the message: "memory couldn't
be read" a.s.f.. Free space on harddisk is. 4 gb.Installed win SP2.Running
win xp. pro. and Microsoft Office xp.
