login to router settings not working

I cant login to my router settings I am typing in admin and password wich are the login and its not working, I even tried restoring the router/modem to factory settings and it still doesn't work, and on the side of the router it says the the username is admin and password is password but its not working, anyone know what the problem is or know how to fix this?

If you've reset it to factory, and the factory UID and pwd are not working, then it is something else

NUM lock, CAPS lock.

Some routers won't let you log on wirelessly, it has to do with the router resetting when you save changes. Who sold / rents you the router?

do I connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to computer or router to computer?

Connect the ethernet cable to your router. and try to log in that way.

nope its still not working when I type in the user and pass it says

the server 198.162.1.1 at level_15_ acces requires a username and password

warning this server is requesting that you username and password be sent in an insecure manner (basic authentication without a secure connection)
