Logitech G27: Type of grease?1

I actually have two questions:
What kind of grease should I use?
Should I remove the old grease before applying the new one?

I have little experience when fixing up very mechanical stuff like this race wheel, so it'd be quite helpful if anyone could tell me what kind of grease I should apply.
From shallow research, it seems that white lithium grease seems to be the best option, since it tends to last long and is even made for outdoor equipment.

And about the second question, there may be contaminants on the gears. Could the contaminants degrade the new grease quickly? It is also worth mentioning that the grease used may be different.

Just any thic grase will work. Well for my bike i used oil for french fries haha( used old).

Soo basicly clean up and re apply it. If the grease is more liquid apply just much that it doest spill over.

Hm...
In that case, whaddaya think will last the longest? Plain old chain oil? That stuff is usually meant to be used in the rain and all, so it could be the one to last the longest.
