Hi,

I recently purchased a logitech G430 7.1 surround set headset. However, even when I mute my MIC from my headset, I get a weird static noise from my headphones. Is this normal? Or should I file for return from Amazon.

Solution

While I can't say for sure, it seems likely that another headset would behave the same way, unless the mic on yours happened to be contributing an abnormal amount of noise or something.
It's more or less "normal".

The problem is because the USB power, being headsets powered by the USB, they get a lot of noise from that. If you dont have a good PSu and MB is usual get the noise from the USB leaked to the headset.

I don't know about the typical background noise level of this particular headset, but you might find it helps if you go into Windows volume control, and mute the playback of any input sources, so that you don't hear them playing over your speakers/headphones. Even if your standard 3.5mm line-in and mic jacks don't have a microphone plugged in, or that microphone is turned off, they can still potentially each contribute a bit of noise. Muting their playback won't prevent them from recording, but you won't automatically hear them over your speakers, eliminating any noise they might contribute. You can even mute the playback of your USB headset's mic if it's active and you don't mind not hearing yourself over it.

Hi,

I have already muted all my playback devices and the noise has been eliminated as of now. My question is, I have got a 2 week period to exchange the headphones from Amazon. Will getting another one not have this problem at all? I believe a headphone should just work out of the box. I should not be required to mute playback devices to not hear the weird static sound when the MIC is off. What do you think?
