Question Logitech m705 clicks at knuckles...?

I know this may sound strange but please try and work out if this makes sense.

my mouse Logitech m705 which I got when it first came out years ago, hardly ever used, now using it for my pc. It doesn’t click at the finger tips like you would think, it clicks near the top where your knuckles would be... to use the mouse for gaming and anything else means I have to hold the mouse like I am chopping up an onion. Is this something I can fix... anyone had a problem like this before?

Took it apart, it was clogged with cat fur...
