Hello I'm looking for the most cost effective way to upgrade my Logitech x540 systems sub. Would one of the new z506 subs work with my speakers? I can get a z506 replacement sub on eBay pretty cheap. If so would it even be an upgrade? Or are the little single rca connectors the satellites connect with used by another subwoofer/company? And finally would it be worth it to just buy a good 2.1 ch system like the z623 http://mobile.logitech.com/en-us/product/speaker-system-Z623?crid=47.
I'm happy with the mids/highs of the x540, but I find the bass harsh and small sounding, I like smooth boomy bass. Thoughts? alternatives to the z623? If I could just find a sub that would work with the x540 that I think would be the best, but I'm open to suggestions.

i have the x230 logitech speakers and recently got the z623 as an upgrade. They sounded like tin cans. The bass was ok, but there is so much missing between the sub and the tinny mid-satellites. So i took them back and found im actually pretty happy with the older x230's so im sticking with them for a while longer, they are much clearer sounding and have a more even tone all the bass, mid, high is even. where the z623 had harsh mids, minimal treble, and no mid-bass. Upgrading the sub speaker of your current system is an option, you could buy any passive sub/speaker with similar ohmage and run it off the built in logitech amp. but then it may be the inbuilt logitech amp, of even your sound card that is responsible for the harsh bass and...

Yea I was thinking the amp in sub might be distorting or something, or maybe an upgraded soundcard would be better, I have an asus m5a97le r2.0 mobo and I'm just using the back audio out, which they don't even give specs on in the website (they give specs for front audio out if you have hd audio connectors in case, which I don't) so was thinking of trying an asus xonar dg or dx soundcard. But I still think a bigger sub would really suit me, I like my bass and have had this speaker setup for at least 5 years now, feel like I got my use out of em.

I will probably be looking at Microlab speakers for my next set. Get good reviews but hard to tell unless you hear them first hand. The z623 also got good reviews but i thought it sounded like crap....
