Hey all,

I've had a set of Z506 Logitech 5.1 Surround speakers for months. Due to lack of space, for a while I had them disconnected from my computer and I was just using a headset. I was able to move my computer today into an area more surround sound friendly, but I've been having some issues with them.

I'm running WIndows 10, and I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card. When I first plugged the speakers in, I wasn't getting surround. When I tested the rear speakers and subwoofer, the sound was coming out the front only. Then I remembered having this problem before but couldn't remember how to fix it. I thought it might be a driver issue, so I found my way to the Creative website where I downloaded the correct drivers for the sound card.

Now, however, when I go to test the speakers, there's a brief sound, and then all the speakers go dead. They're on, but no sound will come through.

I've tried different drivers, messing around with Realtek (which, btw, has nothing to do with Sound Blaster, so that's very unlikely to solve the problem), I've checked all the plugs, and the speakers do work, just not how they are supposed to... and so far it seems I've only made the problem worse.

If you have any suggestions, at this point I'm open to anything. ...help... 🙁

ok, sounds to me like you need to keep tinkering with what jacks you have plugged into what outlets. I've got a sb z series card, it's not that simple to get it right, I've goofed many times after unplugging the connections. Getting all the plug-ins in the right outlets can be time consuming, not just on the back of the soundcard, but also all your connections on the woofer.
And to isolate, do you have an old set of computer speakers somewhere that you can use?

I'm not sure, the realtek audio on the mobo might be better than your audigy.
If you're getting sound out of the mobo, then your speakers aren't the issue, how old is that SB Audigy?

old enough for a PCI slot mobo. i dont think they made a Audigy for pci-E

The mobo ports work just fine for surround, I just didn't check it, assuming it wouldn't work. The Sound Blaster card is pretty damn old, so it doesn't surprise me that it doesn't work anymore.

Anyway, I appreciate your responses. You can move on now, though, as it's working great now 😀
