Logon Error

In trying to logon I have been getting the following error:


The System cannot log you on due to the following error:

The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect

From the microdsoft site I oculd find out that this has an error code of 24
but I could not see what to do about it.


This happens with all of the people that log in. I was able to go back to
an earlier recovery point but the problem has happened again. Any ideas as
to why this error would all of sudden begin appearing?

have you considered the possibility that your system is infected with some
kind of spyware, malware or otherwise misbehaving junkcode that
re-introduces this error, because you are (unknowingly) triggering it again
by using something on your system?
Get some scanning software like Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Ad Aware,
Virus scanner and use all of them to check (and cross-check) your system for
the culprit.

This is on XP with SP2 right? Because I just received the same thing
this morning.. I wasn't able to login in safe mode (the same error.
But Last known configuration worked.

This error is caused by a bad windows update patch. It happens
automatically when you have Automatic Update turned on. I'm no expert
but I finally figured out what's up. I have an automatic update waiting
to install but I won't let it. The problem here is caused by update
KB885835. When it installs automatically, it messes up my login. I
don't know what's causing it, but it's not spyware or a virus. The last
known good configuration worked, fortunately.

in safe boot select The Last Known Good Configuration Option.
in my case is working.

Yeah, it worked for me, too. Didn't install the update and still don't
understand what's going on or why this happened, though.

Check windows media player 10 installation, i got bad installatyion
from auto updates, then i downloaded it (the install file) and
installed it like that, i dont have logon problems now... so far...

I am also having the same problem from this morning. I have very little
knowledge in XP. How do I revert back to last known good configuration?

Kazi - Restart the computer and as it is starting, repeatedly tap the F8
key (just like when you want to get to Safe Mode). This will bring you
to the menu you need to choose Last Known Good Configuration.

I've had the same problem with this udpate. Anyone emailed microsoft
about this yet? I'm gonna once I figure out where the email is
supposed to go to.

A windows update caused the same to happen to a friends windows xp box.
Thanks for the heads-up on last known configuration.
