I was lookin through the how to build ur pc guide on here.. seems a bit outdated(from 2002)
is there a more recent guide that shows you from scratch(the guide had psu already installed)

also wut OS should i be goin with my system?

also.. i kinda know my way around the mobo.. i have installed additional hd, pci card, and rams...onto my existin desktop..

heh...not too hard really. I put mine together (first build for me too) without much of a guide...I just watched some videos on youtube. A rough step-by-step.

1. Inventory your parts and make sure you have everything that you ordered (lay them out in your workspace with the tools you will need - just various sized screwdrivers).

2. Take the motherboard out and place it on the antistatic bag it came with.

3. Install the processor via the instructed method (make sure the arrows line up on the processor and mobo socket).

4. Apply thermal paste directly to the processor surface (less is always more with this...do not use too much).

5. Install the HSF (using retention bracket which I hope you bought with your cpu cooler...if not make a separate order w/ the thermal paste ) and tighten the screws. Connect the HSF power cord the CPU_FAN connection on the mobo (near the socket)

6. Install the memory as instructed by your mobo manual.

7. Install the brass standoffs that come with the cm690 in the correct holes so that they line up with the holes in your mobo (so that the mobo's IO panel lines up w/ the case's).

8. Snap the I/O shield onto the case and install the PSU.

9. Lower the motherboard into the case onto the standoffs, ensuring that everything lines up correctly.

10. Screw the mobo down using the screws studded up and down the optical drive and hdd bays.

11. Install the GPU and secure it to the expansion slots.

12. slide the optical drive into an empty bay and secure it using the awesome cm690 tool-less clips.

13. slide the hdd into one of the slots using the cm690's removable HDD trays.

14. Connect the sata cables supplied with the mobo from the sata connection on both the HDD and the optical drive to any of the mobo's sata ports.

15. Connect all of the power connections from the PSU (GPU, HDD, DVD drive, 24-pin mobo power, 4/8 pin mobo power etc.)

16. Connect the case's front panel wires to the mobo (check the manual for these...ASUS' little connector thing FTW)

17. Connect the case fans to the motherboard fan connectors, or directly to the PSU.

18. POST

heat sink fan...the xigmatek cooler that you bought...it looks like it does come with clips so you'll be ok.

Trust me, it's not as complicated as it might seem.

Step 0: RTFM. That's computerspeak for "read the [strike]fu[strike] fine manual" - the motherboard manual, especially the section that talks about motherboard connections.

Don't worry about the retention bracket. AMD motherboards do not use one.

Steps 9 and 10 will probably be the most difficult thing you do. Cable management (organizing, routing, and tieing up the cables) will probably be the most tedious thing you do. Cable management is not just for cosmetic purposes. That's a very nice side effect. You want to make sure that nothing is going to dangle into a fan. And you want to make sure that case air flow is blocked as little as possible.
