İ have a 8 years old Acer5920g and having same problem with most of 5920g users . My gpu's is dead . Probably because its chronic solder problem . İ dont what is my motherboard right now . İ dont know if gpu is seperated or onboard . My first question is from here . Can i get if its seperated or onboard by its model name ?

Now second question . Lets assume it is onboard and i cannot change only gpu . Can i buy a new random mb and another random gpu something like ... lets say 8600m gt and can those two run fine my old laptop ?

Last question . İf i buy the same model can i change new ones part with old one ? İf i buy another model of 5920g can i change new ones part with old one ?

Those are my specs :
Acer 5920g - 602g16mi
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
Memory:1*2GB &1*1GB RAM
Hard Drive: 250GB hard disk drive
Graphics Card: Mobile Intel PM965 Express chipset with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

Solution

Older C2D era laptops like the OP's tend to have discrete cards if they had Nvidia or AMD chips. Here is the OP's laptop:

Just a motherboard with gpu onboard is ok ? Or i need to get worry for other stuff like cooling , audio or processor ?

Laptop motherboards don't conform to any standard; each laptop has a proprietary motherboard. You need to find the correct motherboard for your model number, or it won;t work. Replacing a laptop motherboard isn't as easy as a desktop one; I advise you to take it to a professional repair centre instead of trying to repair it yourself. It's far too easy to accidently snap a hinge or severe a wire if you don't know what you're doing, which only will make matters worse.

Your laptop is quite old, so it's up to you if replacing the GPU (It's a discrete card) or even the motherboard is worth it; almost certainly you'd be looking at about $100+ for either, provided you can find spares at all. If I were you, I'd look at buying a cheap new chromebook or laptop.

Solution

İt appears to be gpu and mobo was seperated like you said . İs there any problem for me to change gpu to 8600m gt ? Thanks for your helps

TY for that. I did google for the motherbd but the one I came up with had the gpu on it...
At least the OP is moving in the right direction now. :)

Yea thanks you both guys . İ have a last question . Any gpu that is compitable with 5920g fits to my 5920g ? İ heard model/part number could make a problem . İs it true ?

The 8600M shouldn't be a problem, as your laptop did originally come in a configuration with it. It should work fine. If I'm not mistaken, in that era all the discrete cards were the same so any 8600M should work fine. Don't quote me on that though; 8 years is a long time!

I still advise you, if you have the means, to invest in a new laptop. Your laptop is getting quite old now, and it's only a matter of time till the motherboard and / or HDD fails, if they haven't already. You'll end up paying more in the long run keeping this old beast alive than a newer equivalent. If you can't afford a cheap laptop brand new, check out some used ones.

Something like this Dell: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Inspiron-5423-14-128GB-SSD-Intel-Core-i5-3rd-Gen-1-6GHz-8GB-MSO-2016-/262410541931?hash=item3d18e31b6b:g:IWcAAOSw1DtXIoMv is cheap and will keep up it's performance for a very long time, thanks to the 8GB of memory and the SSD.

If that is still too expensive, here is your replacement GPU: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-4520G-5520G-5920G-6930G-7720G-9920G-nVIDIA-8600M-GT-512MB-MXM-II-Video-Card-/252378094192?hash=item3ac2e81a70:g:ZtgAAOSwn9lXKdLM

And Motherboard: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Aspire-5920G-Intel-Motherboard-DA0ZD1MB6F0-MBAGW060018-/381593804898?hash=item58d8c36062:g:TQUAAOSwSX9XBTxT (Looks very similar if not identical, but be sure to check your mothebroard model no. and see if they match.).

Good Luck!

Thank you so much and yea you are right . İ need to get a new laptop . İ will remember this laptop you suggested . İ dont do though stuff like playing games or something like that . Just browsing multiple internet pages at once or watching 720p videos . This thing just needs work fine till October with doing those things . İ can get a new one after around 6 months . Why did you linked a motherboard to me ? Please do not make me more worried bro 😀 .

There's no saying what the problem is; yes, that GPU does have a documented flaw, but it could still be fine and the motherboard may be faulty. The only way to be sure is to swap parts out with ones that are known to be working. So if the PC won't boot even after replacing the GPU, either you got a faulty replacement or the motherboard is fried.

Thanks for informations and help . İ will be updating about status in 1 week in any case if someone tries to fix same problems like mines

By the way i got rid of the shit . Nice right ? 😀 Lenovo ideapad 500 something is new laptop , just stack money guys it gets tastier when you sufffer much from technology

Also if you think you can play games on laptop you are wrong maybe that was my first mistake to start when i first bought it , then later already defected models of nvidia failed me at some point . İ was lucky because components survived more than they should but yeah as long as its not a space rocket produced by MSİ or Acer or any firm that have good fame with performance and durability then you should not run laptops long time with heavy load , also a seperate cooler is needed in my opinion just to make sure if anybody checks this topic and tries to read everything to find a solution , this is a solution for lifetime . Dont . Laptops are not race horses like desktops , they are cute little japanese animated girls , you cannot have wild sex with them
