Hi all

I use a 100 foot ethernet cable cat 5e from the modem to gigabit tp link to connect two computers to the Internet. Problem is that the Internet keeps getting cut off and I narrowed down the problem is somewhere with the long ethernet cable. If I restart the gigabit switch it turns back on and lasts for a while and then randomly stops. It can be two minutes later. My question is what can be the problem and the best solution, as I need to use the computer from the front of the house and it needs to be wired not wireless. Thank you all.

Solution
CAT5e has a maximum range of 100m, so unless the cable is damaged, it's unlikely to be the cause of the problem. Go through a process of elimination to establish where the problem lies.

Buy another 100' cable to confirm or exclude the current cable as the problem. If the old cable isn't the problem, repackage and return the new one. If the old cable is the problem, you can always replace the connectors and maybe have a spare 99.5' cable.
