Long Long Boot Time Problem...............

My resent build DOES boot and DOES post Windows 7 but the process of getting to my login page literally takes 10 minutes from the time I press the power on button.

I've read the No Boot/Post stickies for any clues, even though my system IS booting/posting, it's just taking WAY too long.

My case did NOT come with standoffs. Each screw hole for the MB is nippl'd or, slightly raised to do what standoffs are supposed to do BUT....... in my haste to install my board I only used maybe half the screws I should have used to attach MB to my case (actually, I could only find maybe half the screws. My "build" is actually a "rebuild"). Been reading posts here and have been learning how these screws are a part of the grounding process for the MB. This makes me wonder if not filling all the screw holes available is contributing to my problem of a very long boot. If this makes any sense please post and thanks for reading.

Just read another "long boot/post" post and someone who works on this stuff as his job says this problem is usually from a faulty HD.

One of my WD hd's failed but I still have it plugged in. Don't know why....maybe hoping it will come back to life but either way, it is powered and plugged into a SATA port. So my system on power up is "seeing" this "not working anymore" HD and maybe contributing to this problem. Have to go to work in an hour so when I shut it off I will totally unplug this HD from my system and we'lll see what happens on power up after that.

I will post results here so I may contribute to other members who come here with the same problem.

Holy Christ.....done and DONE!!!!! Just came home and powered up after unplugging problem hard drive and it posted in less than a minute!!!!

WITHOUT A DOUBT failing or failed HD should be #1 consideration when facing a long boot/post. PLEASE post this into a sticky or add it to one of the already stickies on this subject. Thanks for the help Tom.
