[SOLVED] Long on-going motherboard failures

Hi all,

I've been experiencing an issue with motherboard failures for the past few years now. It seems like every time I replace/upgrade my MB, it only lasts around 2-3 years before I mysteriously stops working. The latest iteration of this just occurred a few days ago, with my PC turning on (fans, RGB-lighting, etc.), but no output to the monitor, mouse, or keyboard (the latter to both having RGB lighting).

I have a growing suspicion that these failures are being caused by the PSU - it's the only constant between failures, and is also the oldest part of the system (7 years by now).

Any other ideas on what might be causing the MB failures?

MB: MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: MSI GTX 1060 6GB Gaming
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (3200MHz)
PSU: Corsair CX500M
Storage (primary): Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD
Storage (secondary): WD Blue 1TB HDD @ 7200rpm
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition

As you suspect, the psu is a likely culprit

however, it 's strange that it doesn't fry other components
it will be very hard to verify as we can't really simulate years of usage

That being said, have you swapped your case in that time?

Yes, I did - also thought it could be grounding issues, but I've had 3 different motherboards, all with their unique standoff configurations.

It's strange that nothing else has ever failed.

Guess you'd best replace that PSU, won't hurt either
