Look at my gaming pc....

I would not spend so much money on the old x79 chipset new x99 is coming out soon ( i think like 6 months)
and your computer is complete overkill you can have best of everything for like 3000
a desktop is always going to be much more powerful than any laptop and it will cost less so for gaming id say def build

Alienware? a big "NO" to that. That PC you will beat the crap out of that laptop. The performance difference of a mid range PC and a high end gaming laptop is very significant, that copper heatsink in the Alienware 18, is not going to properly cool both the CPU and GPU. With this PC you might want to have a AIO closed loop liquid cooler, it'll cool the CPU better (not by much, but hey), and it'll look much better from the outside. All the parts will work perfectly together.

Ok if i had your budget this would be a much more sensible build dont need to overkill it in areas your just not going to use like the 4tb drive you have there is way overpriced you can have 3tb one for 100 you could even buy 2 3tbs and have change left then that 4tb also why the 4k monitor ? for gaming id get an actual gaming monitor and in gaming 24 inches is the perfect size
also remember just because some parts have higher numbers on them dont mean that they are faster like ram is 1600 i selected but it has cas latency of 7 at 1600 you could make it much faster if you wanted to than the ones you selected

But in all seriousness, you're contemplating something like this against a crappy Alienware? You could build a desktop to beat an Alienware Laptop for like $700 lol

saying 290x would have same performance as 780Ti would be wrong and if he has money to blow why would he get extreme4 a budget z87 board when he can get a motherboard that would be more appropriate for the high end components and ram for $60 is not going to have same performance as 1600 cas 7 ram that is made for overclocking another thing the less video card the better 2 higher end graphics cards in sli would be much better option than 3 cheaper in 3 way and it is well known that SLI works way better than crossfire if this was actually a smart build he could build a computer for $1500 that would run anything at max but his budget allows him to go overboard so why not. This is the same as me saying this build would be 1000 cheaper than yours and have same performance on single monitor as yours.
