What model motherboard do you have?

If you want to add 4 more GB, you will need to use PC2-6400

You have to use the same speed.

More than likely you won't notice a difference in speed between 4GB and 8GB

using PC2-5300 will give you a larger RAM capacity, but will actually slow the speed down, as using mis-matched RAM speeds will cause all the memory to operate at the lowest speed that is installed, eg: mixing 5300 and 6400 will cause all dimms to operate at 5300 speeds (667Mhz). Also, research your motherboard's memory support and configurations. some boards will only support 8GB at 667Mhz, even if you are using 800Mhz DDR2. For instance, Dell's Optiplex 745 automatically reduces the RAM speed to 667Mhz as soon as you hit 4GB. Sometimes you will be better off with a smaller amount of faster memory. 4GB should be more than adequate for most user's needs.
