Looking at a GTX580, EVGA or other? 1.5mb or 3.0mb?

Looking for some advice here.
Its been two years now that I have been running the EVGA GTX285. It has treated me well. Now its time for Battlefield 3 and the GTX285 just isnt going to cut it anymore.
Since I have fell out of the loop on gpu's lately Im looking for some advice from you guys that have stayed on top of the gpu advancements.
I have always had great luck with EVGA products but looking through some of the treads it seems there isnt many people talking about EVGA, I see a lot of ASUS and Gainwind products.

So what brand do you guys recommend?
Is the 3 mb cards worth the extra money or is it hype to get you to spend more $
Is it a bad time to buy into the 580 series cards?
Is my pcp&c 750watt ps going to handle the 580? ps spec link below (+12VDC @ 60A (Powerful Single Rail))

Asus p6t Deluxe mb
Intel I7-920 cpu oc'd @3.8ghz
XIGMATEK Dark Knight CPU cooler

Depends on the res you are running, and depends on the level of AF and AA you want to use. If the answer to all of those is Very High then the 3mb card is prolly worth the extra few quid.

In regards to brand, it really makes no difference, Yes EVGA, Asus, Giga are top quality brands, but look at the price and warranty the manu offers.

I usually buy Asus myself, but when I bought by 470s, Zotac were about £60 less than anything else and still offered a 3yr warranty, its a no brainer really, especially as they are all reference boards actually made by nVidia anyway, just rebranded my the resellers.

i would go for the 3GB card if you're gaming at higher resolutions above 1080p and using AA/AF. Battlefield 3 I've heard is using mass amounts of VRAM. If you are gaming 1080P and below I would go for the 1.5GB card.

After further review, I think the 1.5 meg cards will be fine.
EVGA has the trade up program that I could use around Christmas time to bump up to the 590GTX
Asus has a nice cooling design tho.

Just buy the 3 gig model One card to run the game, the other in SLI to run the PhysX if present and leave the CPU free to do what it has to do.

Looking at my Afterburner logs after a evening of MW2 play for giggles I see that one card had used 70% of 3 gig of memory, the second card used about 35% of 3 gig while running the game. There was a total of 6 gig available to the GPU's.

The fan and heat data showed that the cards did not really work that hard as my Crossfire Sapphires did playing that exact same game.

Memory right now is damn cheap and good.

Get as much as you can before we get into some kind of shooting war with China.

I thought if my max res was 1080p or under the additional 1.5meg of memory did nothing but sit there?
Not sure, I dont mind spending the extra money if I will see a difference running a max res of 1920x1200 if not I will would use that extra $100 on another 6 gigs of OCZ ram

I just got off the phone with EVGA tech support, The tech told me unless I m going with multiple monitors or a crazy high resolution I will not see a difference between the 1.5m and the 3.0m card.
He also told me I should go with the superclock DS version over the superclock, same price but the DS (double shot) has twice the cooling and it has a $20 rebate right now.

I looked at that option as well, the standard clock, superclock and doubleshot superclock are all the same price, All three cards are $479 at newegg now

My Afterburner logs indicate that my 580's with the 3 megs of memory have used quite a bit of it during gaming. Sometimes one of the two cards would use more memory than was availible with any of my previous cards, SLI or Crossfire 6770's included. Other times, older games will completely "Vanish" and not move the log much in terms of used memory.

The 580 is a very good choice however much memory you choose to have on it. The 600's will need to be faster and stronger than the 580's Just happy I did not foolishly buy the 590's
