Looking at the crystal ball for my future screen.....

Well I am happy with my build, but I always think about my next upgrades and my next one will be a newer screen and a second gtx 980. That aside, I was wondering if there is a screen on the market that meets what I want: 3xxx by 1440p, 144hertz refresh rate, curved wide screen 21x9, and IPS (maybe not IPS). I don't even think a gtx 980 2 way sli can handle that screen XD. Is there a screen like that out on the market?

It would be unreal to think 2 gtx 980's could run that at 144hertz? I might be getting a titan by then. XD I fell in love with 144hertz and will not go back, but I have heard and seen super good things about IPS. Plus more pixels is sorta becoming a thing. I also think the eye infinty setups are cool, but the bezels bother me. So I figure the curved screen is my closest bet. At least until I build an entire bezel-less dome for myself. XD Hence this screen is what I am waiting for at a sub $600 tag.

Such beautiful screens and such weak gpu's. There is the potential right now for a 30 inch 20k screen (put several phone sized 4k screen together). There just happens to be zero content and years away from a gpu that good. 😀 So there is no way my current setup will run a screen that good? GTX 980 is almost overkill for 1080p and sucks ass for 1440p. Such a weird gpu point :'(

That's one way to put it.

I wouldn't say it's pointless to SLI 980's, but it does feel like catch 22 with GPU and monitors.

People have been complaining about how monitors had been stagnant for several years previously, but now that resolution are exploding, GPU hasn't had the chance to catch up...

If I were in the market for GPUs though, I would definitely want to opt for higher VRAM cards now, since the 970 VRAM fiasco, and the fact that games are hitting it, 980 cannot possibly be far behind. It's still not a bad GPU, just no longer ideal IMO.

Well it was a hard choice, because of the gtx 970 issues. I DID NOT want to get a gtx 970, but lower wasn't super good and the gtx 980 is almost over the top, but that is the next screen I am waiting for 1440p, 21x9, 144hertz, curved, and maybe IPS. In that case it won't be worth it to get a second GTX 980, because that won't be enough power. (If I got a second GTX 980 I would be getting it sooner then the screen most likely as gpu's are dropping faster then the screens)

I got the SLI 970s before the VRAM fiasco was blown open, but in the hindsight I still haven't regretted that choice as SLI 980's was, at the time to me, waste of money, so it was either 2 970's or 1 980. So far, at 1440p, I have yet to find a single game where I would have prefered 1 980 or SLI 970s.

I definitely would have prefered Titan X to sli 970's, but of course...

I'd say either wait a little longer and see the next round of AMD/nVidia's offerings and see how they do on 1440p (3440x1440 is just pver 31% more pixels than an ordinary 1440p, so the relative fps on 21:9 should be roughly 25% less than 16:9), and make the decision then, or see if 2560x1080p can be an acceptable alternative.

I don't know if DSR works on 21:9 though, if it does not, it would diminish argument for 2560x1080 screen.

I wouldn't put my money on it.

It is a nice function, but until we know more about that, I am putting it down as "games have to specifically programmed to take advantage of it". And given the support that programmers gave to DX11 features, I am not optimistic. I have a strange feeling that by the time we see it, 970 and 980 would have been obsolete.

Don't get me wrong, if that feature works for everything, it'd be absolutely awesome, but it's a too good to be true scenario.

And not only that, I have a slight fear of programmers being lazy and GPU makers being cheap, meaning VRAM usage shoots up, but single cards don't come with enough VRAM on its own, requiring you to get multiple instead.

EDIT: Nvm POS 75hertz

I really want to buy a better screen, but there is nothing out there that isn't only slightly better then what I have or compromises a lot for other things. I have a 24inch 1080p 144hertz. I will not buy that in ips, just for the sake of ips; it doesn't seem worth it. 1440p maybe. A curved screen sounds fun, but I can't go below 120hertz.
