Hi guys and girls,
have been looking at getting a new high end gaming PC, that will run new games at high settings and will do so for a couple of years to come. Got a budget of upto £2500 for tower and hardware. (Already got monitor, keyboard, mouse and so on).

This is what I've been looking at:

CPU: INTEL® Core™ i7-5930K Six-Core 3.50 GHz 15MB INTEL Smart Cache LGA2011-V3
HDD: 240 GB INTEL 730 Series SATA-III Gaming MLC Solid State Disk (Single Drive)
HDD2: 2TB WD Black WD2003FZEX SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64M Cache 7200rpm Hard Drive
MEMORY: 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4/2800mhz Quad Channel Memory (HyperX Predator w/Heat Spreader)
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS X99-A INTEL X99 Chipset, 3-Way SLI/Crossfire supported, 4 Channel DDR4 ATX Mainboard w/ 8 RAM slots, UEFIBios,Thunderbolt Ready,CrystalSound 2,Turbo LAN,USB3.0,SATA-III RAID,3 Gen3 PCIe x16, 1 PCIe x16 & 1PCIe x 1
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
VIDEO: MSI Afterburner OC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card (Single Card)

If you need more info, please let me know.

I play a wide variety of games, from Shooters to RPG's to Simulations to whatever…

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks all
Nathe

Ok. This is what I'm going to do. I'm going to pick the parts I would buy based off your budget. I don't always do this because there are cheaper alternatives and I don't recommend cases.

Right ok, thanks for the quick reply.
As you can tell, I'm pretty uninformed about PC building. This build is from CyberPowerSystem under the Infinity Xtreme PRO build, with a few Customisations. Ive never built a PC myself, so all help is much appreciated.

That's a pretty big budget. I don't have a problem with an i7 but is there a reason you want to get an Intel Extreme? There might be one or two games that I can think of that benefit from the Six-core. Don't get me wrong it's pretty awesome. But I think the money could go towards multiple monitor support or 4k gaming.

Also, keep the 240 SSD.

This is exactly why I didn't click add to cart and buy without people who know what they're looking at actually had a mooch. As for budget, I want to future proof as much as possible (Which normally doesn't last long in the PC world from what I can work out, lol).

Would it be possible for someone to build a rig for this sort of budget but then actually explain the reason for their choice. I know its a lot to ask, but don't want to be throwing money at a PC that could have been a lot better for the money

Thanks again all for the replies

That's easy. Here comes thousands of responses....

I do have a few more questions.
Do you plan to overclock? If you don't know what overclocking is that's ok. We can explain.
Do you want to use multiple GPUs? (aka SLI or CF)
Do you want to have multiple monitors?

Would be happy with Overclocking if 1) I can find out how to do it, and 2) It still remains a stable system
Multiple GPUs would be fine
At the moment, I only have space for 1 monitor (22" if i remember rightly), but would like the option to at a later date

EDIT: I should also mention, I've never actually built a PC, as in brought and put the components together. Most I have done is change my graphics card in my old PC.

Basic but will run about anything at 1080 ultra:
4670k
Hyper 212 evo cooler
Z97 mobo in the $150 range
2x4gb cas9 ram
250gb ssd
Gtx 970
550w quality psu

Higher:
4770k
2x8gb ram
500gb ssd
Gtx 980 (1440 or 1600p)
750w psu (if you think you might add a second gpu)

Mmm, well you got the link wrong... Don't use the web address from the browser. Use either the Permalink on the page or Export/Markup the build. When you Export, another window will pop up. Make sure to select "BBCode" before you copy and paste.

Honestly, you're budget is pretty massive for playing on a single monitor. Overclocking is cool. It's not really necessary anymore and the gains aren't really substantial. It's a hobby. It's not too difficult but it does take some time as it is an trial/error process.

As for the single monitor, at the moment its in my bedroom, but will be moving it downstairs later this year when my study is done, where i will look at a larger and multi screen.

Thanks again

The only thing you need to add is an SSD. There's no excuse not to have one with this large of a budget. Samsung EVO 250 GB SSD are great. The 980's are awesome and will shred any game on multi-monitor gaming (or 4k). Take a look for a 27" 1440p monitor.

Just noticed one thing, the HDD is a 5400 RPM and an expensive one at that. Change it to a 7200. (Seagate Barracuda, Western Digital Blue/Black).

And yes, a 250GB SSD minimum.

I'm obligated to tell you that the 980 GTX only has about a 15% performance increase over the 970 GTX. But the 980 comes with a 200 quid price hike. Also, did you pick the most expensive 980s? You can get a 980 for 450 quid. Are you just trying to spend a lot of money? If so I'll send you my bank account and routing number.

I'm assuming that this will now play pretty much anything out at the min with max settings? Or am I being a little bit optimistic?

Marvellous, thank you.
I'm assuming this will run pretty much any game out at the moment on max settings?

A big thank you to all that have contributed, and for your time and patience with me.

EDIT:The G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory operating voltage of 1.6V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.

Just saw this warning at the bottom of the parts page…anything to worry about???

Not really. Because you're going to overclock, you can increase the memory voltage to support the faster speeds. Read up on XMP for memory when you get to overclocking. Until then, the RAM sticks will be downclocked to I believe 1600MHz.
