Hi everyone,

I am trying to build a home PC for my parents that will last a while for sub £600 what do you think of the following parts?

It is a good build. However, if you have the money, you should get a better CPU in the same chipset. Also, if it is a one-time build, otherwise it is good. If you plan to upgrade it later, then you should get a better PSU, but that's your choice.
 
If their not gaming their no reason to add the video card, over 4GB of memory, the CPU cooler, and one of the G series processors would probably do. Better power supply for sure.
Also are you sure they know how to manage the SSD and hard drive combined and can direct downloads to the HDD.
 


Do you reckon an I5 K series would provide enough longevity? My Dad loves a bit of old school gaming such as AoE 2 etc.

I am not a big fan (excuse the pun) of stock coolers, I always have issues with them the noise in particular.

Too summaries, decent low spec build but less RAM and a lower spec graphics card but ideally a better chip set and PSU does that sound about right?

and i5 k series is not needed as you are not overclocking your CPU. Your motherboard is an H97 meaning it is not overclockable.

You could get yourself an i5 4460 though.
