Hi,

I currently own the Vaio Z Canvas and am looking for a 32 inch display to use as a primary display via a HDMI port from this device.

My primary uses would be engineering work such as circuit design and PCB work in CAD related software. This would be accompanied by some data analysis work on excel and similar tools. I will be working on some programming too.

I have done some research on buying a monitor vs a TV and had settled on a monitor mainly because of 2 reasons:

1. People seem to complain of a lag (mouse movement) when using a TV as a monitor which would drive me nuts when doing circuit/CAD work.

2. Height adjustment: Since I would be using this on a desk, I feel this would be important.

I would like to know if the reasoning is sound and if there is some aspect of this that I am missing, especially regarding the TV. Surprisingly, a lot of monitors do not have the height adjustment feature though. I do not understand then why would an average user, I mean a purely entertainment centric one, not choose a TV over a monitor every single time.

Also, the device I own has a resolution of 2560 x 1704. So what would be the best resolution for a display to be used at a work desk distance for a 32 inch screen size? This is the fundamental question that I have not been able to answer. Would the below display with 1920 x 1080 be ideal?

Or can I go for a higher resolution for this distance and screen size? This display also falls into my budget range though I can stretch it a bit if required. Even though I have discarded the option of a TV as a display, I would be happy to know if that could still work.

I would also like the possibility to add another monitor to the setup later on. Please note, I will be buying the display in India so all the models that maybe available in US may not be available. Therefore, I will look for an alternate model once I get more clarity on the specifications.

Any guidance would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. It certainly does clarify things. I did look at the BenQ monitor but it is way above budget.

Then I found this LG monitor. This is a compromise in terms of the screen size being 25". Also, this is 21:9 whereas my device is 16:9. Would it scale properly?

The other option is to retain the 1920 x 1080 resolution and reduce the display size to 27". Something like this. Would this be a better choice?

Apologies for the absolute noob questions. Thank you!
